Accreditation, Training and Regulation for Hypnotherapy

Accreditation - Currently, in the UK there is no federal regulatory body for hypnotherapy. But things are changing. This does not mean that there are absolutely no controls in place. On the face of it this sounds quite appalling. But there are several self-regulating hypnotherapy bodies in place. These have been created by hypnotherapists who have very high standards of competence and expect others to follow suit.

There are also National Occupational Standards, (NOS) produced by UK Commission for Employment and Skills, (Skills for Health). And Core Curriculum, (CC).

Hypnotherapy organisations fall into two main categories, some are both:

Registering: these are allowed to register members as having reached a specific standard of training

Accrediting: these are allowed to accredit or validate courses provided by training providers as being of a high standard and following the NOS and the recognised Core Curriculum.

Hypnotherapy trainers do not have to follow any of the CC or NOS. But it is a fantastic safeguard for the students when a course does.

Cressingham College of Hypnotherapy belongs to two professional bodies. Both are Registering and Accrediting bodies. These are GHR and ACCPH.

What is the difference between an accreditation, a validation and an award?

When a course has an accreditation it means that the training provider will supply the diploma/certificate and it is endorsed, (accredited), by an overseeing body or professional association. This is a perfectly valid way of showing that the material delivered has to meet rigorous minimum standards.

The same applies to courses that are validated. These tend to be short courses or CPD workshops.

Course Accreditation by ACCPH

ACCPH Accredits all of our courses. The way this accreditation is shown on all courses is presented below.

At the end of this Level 5 Name of Programme successful learners will receive a Diploma from Cressingham College of Hypnotherapy.

Cressingham College of Hypnotherapy has undergone a quality check to ensure that they and the courses/programmes offered, meet specific quality criteria as required by ACCPH. The learning outcomes of the course have been benchmarked at Level 4 against descriptors published by OFQUAL,  ODLQC and other organisations to indicate the depth of study and level of difficulty involved in successful completion by the learner.

The completion of this course does not lead to an OFQUAL, ODLQC qualification. The course itself has been created by Cressingham College of Hypnotherapy to meet the specific requirements of their students.

ACCPHs’ accreditation involves a robust and rigorous quality audit by their inspectors to ensure the minimum quality is met at all times.  A regular review of Cressingham College of Hypnotherapy and their courses is carried out as part of the endorsement process.

ACCPH provides accreditation to a ‘qualification’ and gives recognition to a providers bespoke programmes, (training/courses) that fall outside the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF).

ACCPH will provide an ‘award’ of a certificate of completion.

ACCPH provides this service to a wide variety of training providers for their courses as there is no provision listed on the Register of Regulated Qualifications .
