Flourish Programme©

The Flourish Programme is the culmination of research and practice that started in 2008. I realised that the therapy I was practicing was very inadequate. There had to be something better ‘out there’. I searched the ‘out there’ and found it empty. That left one alternative. Create what I needed from scratch. I wrote my original concept in a reflective diary on Friday 1st. August 2008:

“If someone can change their mind about which shoes to wear in seconds. Or let go of that favourite perfume they have been wearing for years on a whim. Or even stopping smoking because they decided to. If people can do these things when they want, why can’t they do it when it is something else like anxiety or confidence?

What is stopping them? They have the mechanism in place to let go so why can’t they?

Are neurochemicals involved? Are hormones involved? Is will-power involved?

Are these processes conscious or nonconscious*?”

(*I never use the words unconscious or subconscious when talking about brain function. I use the term nonconscious as we are not consciously using it).

The answer I came up with was to do with erroneous beliefs and ‘Old School’ therapy. These had told them it will take ages to let go of any psychological problem.

I also theorised it had to do with anchors or triggers as these fire off in the non-conscious part of the brain. These appear to remove our ‘free will’ to react in different manner to the anchor. I needed a way to get ‘free will’ back.

My initial search was for techniques I could use in hypnotherapy, (nonconscious). But I realised that I also wanted something that worked eyes open).

By chance I had a stage hypnotist attended an NLP course and he enlightened me significantly.

He told me that he thought hypnotic ‘sleep’ is a form of sleep paralysis. And that the mind slips into an altered state of consciousness very like REM sleep. Especially when the eyes are flickering.

In this state people become highly responsive to making changes. And will do and feel things they would not do in 'real life'. They were doing it as a ‘wakeful or conscious dream’, so accept it as reality. This was how he understood that stage hypnosis worked.

In this state, if they practiced something useful they would have a memory of it ‘actually’ happening. Then in the future they could act on that memory and do useful thought or behaviour.

I had already thought similar things about clients in a very light trance state during NLP work.

I also had mused that change could not be in the mind but also in the whole body due to the:

  • central nervous system – (sympathetic and parasympathetic systems)
  • neuro-chemicals
  • endocrine system, our hormones
  • hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis

Off I went and researched all the above. And created a system through ‘trial and error’ with my clients and students on courses. (All with permission before doing so. In case anyone has a meltdown over me ‘experimenting on unwilling subjects’).

This was an extensive testing phase involving hundreds of client and student sessions. Not only my clients but those of my graduates. Their feedback has been vital in the fine tuning of the Flourish Programme. Over 130 graduates have provided this vital feedback over eleven years. (This still on-going).

There have been several developmental stages in this system before Flourish Programme.

On the course you will get a more detailed background – this webpage is not the right place for it. But it is a highly advanced form of the Responsive Hypnotherapy Programme

Flourish Programme is a whole mind-body experience. We cannot work in the mind alone using out of date psychological ideas. Many of these do not work well. You will learn real proven ways of helping people to change in seconds.

Many people do completely change in a single session. Yes you read that correctly. With these techniques most people for most problems can become 'sorted' in a single 2 hour session.

Flourish Programme© can be content free – you actually don’t need to know the problem you are dealing with! It is that powerful.

This therapy can done eyes wide open and still make massive changes almost instantly. It can be done in a Coaching style as well.

In many ways it is trance-less ‘hypnosis’. Several sessions of ‘old style’ hypnotherapy is replicated in minutes.

In case you did not get it - read the last paragraph again. The effects are dramatic and permanent.

What are you going to learn on the Flourish Programme

You do not have to pass from level 1, 2 and up to level 3 before you actually learn about the brain and neurology. We do that from the beginning. It is in an easy to absorb, non-boring format.

Why do you need to know this?

Most clients like to know the workings of a new therapy.

It enhances your credibility and prestige when you can explain the brain in layman terms. Tell them what processes are happening in their mind-body now. And what will happen during and after Flourish Programme.

It also allays any fears as you actually do know what you are doing.

Day 1: The bigger picture of F P.

How it has developed from Responsive Hypnotherapy.

The basic building blocks – techniques and ‘Standard Protocol’

Demonstrations. Practice time

Neuroscience of Narrative – Story-telling and Metaphor. How the brain is 'hard-wired' for learning from stories.

Day 2: More of the bigger picture of F P.

More building blocks – techniques and ‘Non-Standard Protocols’, including quantum concepts of communication.

Demonstrations. Practice time

Day 3: Brain anatomy, function and nervous systems

Understanding the brain allows us to use F P better

First we take a quick trip round the brain and get to know its main parts. We look at what they do. We also look at the evolution of the brain and how the human brain arrived at its present state.

We will also look at the various nervous systems.

The main emphasis will be on the areas below

  • The Triune Brain
  • Prefrontal cortex
  • Basal ganglia
  • Striatum
  • Insular cortex
  • Amygdala
  • Anterior cingulate cortex
  • Hypothalamus
  • Hippocampus

For each one we will answer the following questions:

  • What is this brain area?
  • What does this nervous system do?
  • Why is it important to me as a therapist?
  • What can I do with a client now having understood this?

We will cover the basics – there will be more detailed texts to read at home and answer questions about.

Day 4: More advanced Flourish Programme techniques, demonstrations and practice time.

Introduction to Evolutional Psychology and Positive Psychology. How they fit with the F P

Day 5: How the Brain Processes Thoughts. Understanding Intelligence, Consciousness and Emotion, Learning and Memory

Endocrine System and other body systems

The endocrine system

  • The hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis
  • The hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis
  • The lymphatic system and its distribution through the body

Cortisol, Dopamine, Oxytocin, Adrenaline, Serotonin, GABA and glutamate.

For each one we will answer the following questions:

  • What is this brain chemical?
  • Why is it important to me as a therapist?
  • How to effect changes in these using F P

We will cover the basics – there will be more detailed texts to read at home and answer questions on

Days 6: Further advanced Flourish Programme techniques, demonstrations and practice time. Bringing it all together. Graduation.

The manual contains a huge amount more material on how the brain actually works. also how the brain-body work as well.
