Yes. All the courses are accredited by the British Institue of Hypnotherapy & NLP. They are one of the oldest and respected hypnotherapy organisations in the UK. The BIH & NLP are a founder member of the UKCHO.
This means you are qualifed to join the BIH & NLP on completion of the course. If you do so they will enter you on the UKCHO register of therapists automatically. This is one of the main registers in the UK.
You will also be qualified to join the General Hypnotherapy Register.
The UKCHO Code of Conduct states;
"Professional Indemnity Insurance
Professional indemnity insurance is accepted throughout the profession as a prerequisite for a Hypnotherapist to practice. It is recommended that it should provide adequate cover of at least £2,000,000, preferably £5,000,000."
There are many different schemes and insurers available. It is upto you which you choose which one to have. Cressinghams have a very competetive scheme, as do most other organisations. We suggest that you take out one that covers you for £5,000,000 - in this day and age you can never be too careful!
For your own protection you need insurance. There are coaches and other practitoners who operate without insurance and they are leaving themselves open to massive legal bills and becoming bankrupt.
£5,000,000 worth of Professional Indemnity Insurance costs £46.50 a year, less than 90p a week, (correct as of 18.08.2010). That is the equivalent of about just one session of coaching or NLP.
There is no official register for coaching in the UK. There are several competing organisations all claiming to the 'biggest/best/recognised authority' etc. They will accredit courses - usually for a fee and we feel that is not the way forward for the coaching profession.
CICH has decided to not choose any one over the other. Our attendance courses are accepted by all major insurance companies and in our experience many more clients like to know you are insured than belong to an association.
PLEASE SEE THE NEXT 2 FAQ BELOW. THEY ARE ABOUT NLP BUT THE SAME PRINCIPLES APPLY TO LIFE COACHING.
No. However most people do. All CICH NLP courses are recognised by the British Institute of Hypnotherapy and NLP and the NLP Association.
For a long time there was the Association of NLP which recognised various NLP training schools and I was one of those recognised but although the ANLP still exists they no longer have this function as an authorising body. (See quote from their site below).
In effect it admits that it cannot vouch for the training or quality of the practitioners or trainers they represent and promote through their site.
Quote from the ANLP website. "ANLP International is an independent organisation and does not selectively promote or recommend specific Practitioners or Trainers. All Members of ANLP International have signed our Code of Ethics as responsible practitioners. ANLP International offers their Members list to the public via their search facilities as a measure of good faith and accepts no responsibility or liability whatsoever for individual practitioners. It is up to the individual concerned to satisfy themselves that their chosen practitioner or trainer meets their requirements before entering into any communication or contract".
All of the other bodies that exist, e.g. INLPTA came into being after I had established myself in NLP training. I cannot agree with their training times - 130 hours over 15-18 days to become a practitioner and another 15 days to become a Master Practitioner.
33 Days to become a Master Practioner of NLP that's 50% longer than to become an Advanced Practitioner of Clinical Hypnosis!!!
As my Hypnosis courses are genuinely validated through a recognised accrediting organisation - The British Institute of Hypnotherapy and NLP I asked them to do the same for the NLP courses. The NLP Association also accredit my courses.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING FAQ FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
In the world of NLP training there is no official government or legal affiliation or certification standard, no ‘official' course content, duration of training or levels of competency. NLP is an un-regulated field and currently there are no ‘official' guidelines in terms of regulation, certification, standardisation or affiliation.
There are a number of groups, organisations, associations, boards and bodies who have set up their own standard by creating certification and affiliation schemes in order to reflect how they believe NLP should be taught and practiced. These organisations often differ in their opinion. Each organisation has a different judgment and none are mandatory to join or achieve training through. Many training providers choose not to affiliate themselves with any certification or affiliation bodies. I am one of those providers.
Certification and affiliation has, for over 20 years, been debated within the field as to how it should be organised and structured, thus there are many varying models. Confusion often arises from the public when trying to decide on which NLP training provider to train with or which training provider has the ‘right' certification or affiliation scheme and is ‘recognised by' which group. The simple answer is that there is currently no ‘right' answer. Its all down to your personal choice.
PLEASE SEE PREVIOUS FAQ FOR MORE INFORMATION.
In theory anyone can.
Hypnotherapy training is an experiential subject, with a lot of practical activities. No formal academic qualifications are required, (please see the Eligibility page). You will be expected to have a genuine interest in Hypnosis, an enthusiasm for learning and desire to better the lives of others. There is a significant amount of Home Study and this will require dedication to complete.
Coaching is not quite so rigorous in the training but the qualities mentioned above will apply. For the standard Life Coaching courses there is only a small amount of home study required.
No. To comply with the regulations of the UKCHO you have to attend a minimum of 120 hours of face to face tuition. This is so important in the correct learning of the techniques and hypnotic voice and language patterns. Not to mention real live practice on fellow students – their feedback and that of your tutor is invaluable in your development as a confident and competent practitioner.
Most serious professional organisations and insurance companies do not accept distance learning graduates.
Other trainers do provide non-attendance courses but CICH feels that it should warn you that if federal regulation is eventually approved it is entirely possible that you will be unable to practice afterwards.
No, unless especially commissioned buy yourself. (Please see the Bespoke and 1-2-1 Tuition page).
There is not an official body, federal or otherwise, with control over hypnotherapy or hypnotherapy practitioners in the UK. But due to the Report of the House of Lords Select Committee on Science and Technology on Complementary and Alternative Medicine, (2000), the government agreed in 2001 that hypnotherapy had to be subject to professional voluntary self-regulation, (VSR).
This is happening with two main groups working towards VSR;
The UKCHO: www.ukcho.co.uk
The Working Group for Hypnotherapy Regulation: www.hypnotherapyregulation.co.uk
CICH is fully and actively committed to this process.
No. There is no requirement for you to be licensed to work as any of the above in the UK. However clients do like to see a qualification from an accredited school.
Many countries outside the UK do have different requirements so please check first.
No. This will probably happen in the future but at the moment there is no single official register for hypnotists/hypnotherapists.
There are many registers which practising hypnotherapists may join; each setting its own training standards, requirements and code of ethics. Both the UKCHO and The Working Group for Hypnotherapy Regulation have their own “national register”. These can be accessed by the public so that they can verify that a hypnotherapist is on a “national register”.
Details of each are:
UKCHO: National Register of Hypnotherapists
The Working Group for Hypnotherapy Regulation: The National Regulatory Register for Hypnotherapy
These registers are available on the wesite mentioned in an earlier answer.
Inclusion on one of these does mean that the individual has been trained to specified standards and agrees to a set code of conduct, ethics and practice.
However; many well qualified and practicing hypnotherapists choose to be on registers of other professional organisations.
No – there is no requirement for this. After your graduation you will be able to join most professional associations. However; some will only accept graduates from schools they accredit.
It has not been a problem in the past for people who are relatively fluent English speakers.
The theory elements of the Clinical Hypnosis and NLP courses may be quite difficult if you are not a competent English reader.
No. We have trained people from many professions and backgrounds. It is your enthusiasm, desire to help others and flair for therapy we are interested in.
No. Richard has trained a couple of G.P.'s in the past and a few nurses about to retire and they had no advantage over anyone else on the courses.
Yes, for hypnotherapy. No for Life Coaching and NLP.
The amount and length of supervision depends on the professional organisation you join. It is generally accepted that you will need more supervision in the first two years after you qualify.
The UKCHO Code of Conduct states;
b) be an active member of a peer support group.
Yes. The main four courses are available on DVD to do at home.
Richard Wain, the principle, is the sole proprietor.
Richard Wain, the Principle, has been involved in training people since 1978 when he trained staff for the Allders Group. The has been training Coaches since 1992, NLP since 1994 and Hypnotherapists since 2002. Between 1994 an 2007 Richard was also an Upper Pay Scale teacher of Psychology and Science for a consortium of schools in the London Borough of Bexley, where he was also involved in staff training especially NLP techniques and coaching staff having difficulties.
All other trainers are are hand picked Master Practitioners with significant experience and still in private practice. Some were trained by Richard Wain several years ago so are very comfortable with the CICH methods of training.
The prices are for the courses only. We can provide a list of local hotels and BB's. We do not endorse any of these - the list is taken from local sources.
Yes, please see the Bespoke and 1-2-1 Tuition page.
Yes; unless you make arrangements to catch up that weekend. (See T&C's page.)
The vast majority of delegates are only available at weekends so we have to tailor courses to fit this.
We used to run the course over two intensive weeks. Due to the new quidelines of 120 hours of face to face tuition we have had to drop it, as it is not realistic to expect anyone to train for 60 hours per week!
The tutors are considering introducing it again as three one week modules three months apart. This will allow students to complete all the home study work in line with the attendance course.
We no longer provide Foundation Practitioner training as a 'stand alone' course.
There are two reasons for this:
1) It is no longer regarded as sufficiently detailed enough as to allow you treat anyone with serious problems - so many organisations will only allow you to join as an Associate Member. Also some insurance companies will not provide cover.
2) All but a few people then went on to complete the Advanced Practitioner course.
By running the two courses as a combined unit we have been able to reduce the price!
The Advanced course allows you to practice with sufficient knowledge and skill to treat most persons for most things successfully.
The Post Graduate course allows you to demonstrate to your clients that you are extending your knowledge of the profession and builds your own self-confidence in dealing with some of the more difficult areas you may have to work in.
The Senior Diploma does all of the the above but also enhances your prestege as you can use the title Senior Practitioner on your advertising. There is no doubt that this attracts more clients to your practice.
All the price details are to be found at the bottom of each course page. This also includes any instalment plans available.
Instalment plans are shown at the bottom of each course page and on the Fees & Payments page.
We generally do not provide instalment plans for CPD courses or 2 day Coaching courses. We are understanding and may reconsider in some cases.
No. This is when the tutors are most busy in their own practices seeing people after they get home from work.
Generally they are 9:30/10:00 am start and finish about 5:00/5:30pm.
There are two short breaks and a lunch period which are taken at appropriate times.
No. We do provide a sellection of hot and cold drinks and biscuits at break times.
There places close by to buy lunches or you may bring your own.
Yes. Richard Wain is available most days to answer your questions. You may find he is busy teaching a CPD course or with a client but he will call you back within a couple of hours.
Yes. Please make an appointment and you may come along most weekdays, if no courses are running, between 10:00am and 3:00pm.
As we are teaching every weekend we do not have visitors on Saturday or Sunday.
This depends on the course you are taking.
The course with the cmost Home Study is the Advanced Practitioner of Clinical HypnosisAt the start of the course you are told which work has to be completed at home over the 36 weeks. It is up to you to decide when to do it - but we strongly advise you start it straight away. In addition to this you will be set exercises to complete before the next weekend of training.
The Hypnotherapy Long CPD courses have either 10, 20 or 30 hours of Home Study to complete.
Coaching and NLP requires around 2-3 hours per night during the courses
No. All the required texts are provided for you.
However; for the Hypnosis course there is a list of other books we suggest you should read, these may be bought cheaper secondhand or borrowed from a library.
Often different people on the course buy different books and lend around the group.
When straight teaching and demonstrating the ratio will be one tutor to the whole class, regardless of size.
When it comes down to supervision of practice sessions we try to have a ratio of no more than 10 students to 1 supervisor/tutor. (If we can we get it down to 8:1).
Supervisors are always fully qualified hypnotists with several years practice so will be able to answer all your questions. Most are Cressingham graduates so know the course specifications well.
At our own premeses. (Please see Contact Us page for full details of the address).
It depends on the nature and severity of your learning difficulties. The demands of the course are quite tough but we recognise our obligation to all students. We have had people with slight to moderate difficulties pass our courses.
The courses with home study units should be OK so long as you can arrange for a reader/scribe as required. Extra time can be allocated for these but you will not receive your diplomas until all work has been completed satisfactory. Once we know of your situation the tutor who marks your work will be aware that your spelling and grammar requires allowances.
On attendance days of the course you will be given extra help by the tutor or supervisor.
However, CICH must point out that these are courses were you have to pass all sections at a required standard. They are NOT "pay and attend so I get the diploma" courses.
No. The fee you see is the fee you pay. There are no other charges by us.
The only other expenses will be travel, accommodation, food and if you decide to buy books from the recommended list.
There is no written exam at the end so there can be no charge.
During your time with CICH you will receive supervision and mentoring from your tutor.
After graduation you may opt to still have supervision with your tutor. This will be a private arrangement between the two of you. Richard Wain is willing to supervise if required.
Richard is the Network co-ordinator for the British Institute of Hypnotherapy for SE London and Kent. He is willing to take any members from these areas on a 1-2-1 basis or in regular support group setting at CICH. You do not have to have trained with CICH to join these groups or have his personal supervision.
CICH offers support in the following ways:
1) Supervision - please see previous answer.
2) High quality CPD courses to ever increase your knowledge of hypnosis. New courses will be introduced on regular basis. Previous courses will be updated and provided every 2-3 years so that everyone has a chance of attending them.
3) Help and advice on setting up your practice.
